Cleaning/maintenance operative (short term contract) 

Job description 

Ensure maintenance of the premises and exterior spaces (offices, common areas, corridors, external entrances, pavements, etc.) and ensure the processing of waste in order to contribute to a clean and pleasant working environment for staff and visitors. 

Ensure the supply and maintenance of equipment, cleaning products and hygiene supplies in order to be able to carry out its work correctly and on time. 

Inform the administrative support operative of any possible damage or wear and tear to the furniture and buildings. 

Serve drinks and snacks to diplomatic staff and their guests. 

Required competences and eligibility criteria 

Behavioural competences:

  • Be able to work in a team with respect for the hierarchy and colleagues   

  • Be service-oriented (internal and external users) 

  • Be reliable/trustworthy/loyal and able to operate with discretion and confidentiality 

  • Be able to adapt/be flexible 

  • Be capable of developing yourself 

  • Be committed to achieving your objectives 

Technical competences:

  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection procedures 

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods appropriate to the surface (in order not to damage it) 

  • Knowledge of the cleaning products, their use and the risks involved. 

  • Knowledge of at least one working language (English, Dutch or French) and Arabic. 

  • Previous working experience as a cleaner is considered a bonus.  

Eligibility criteria:

  • The right to reside and work in Egypt 

  • Certificate of good conduct 

Selection procedure 

  • First selection on the basis of the submitted application file 

  • Oral interview to assess the abovementioned competences 

  • Date of entry into service: 1st of May 2026 or 1st of June 2026 (to be determined) 

We offer 

  • A fixed-term contract for 4 months to cover a maternity leave 

  • Working schedule: full-time, Sunday – Thursday 

  • Social security: local social security fund (if Egyptian nationality) 

  • Holiday and leave arrangements: 14 holidays and 21 leave days per year

Internship at the Embassy

The Embassy of Belgium in Cairo welcomes unpaid interns for a minimum period of two months. The internship has to be part of an academic curriculum or officially approved by an institution of higher education.
